DENTAL BRIDGES & CROWNS – YOUR GENERAL CRANBROOK DENTIST

Dental Bridges

Patients who are missing teeth or have gaps in between their teeth, may often feel discouraged or hesitant to smile due to the evident lack of teeth that they possess. Here at Victoria Avenue Dental your general Cranbrook dentist, Dr. Brett Bevans and the team are pleased to provide you with dental bridges, which are designed to fill the gaps left by one or more missing teeth with artificial teeth called the pontic. Dental bridges are also supported by anchoring teeth that are called the abutment teeth.

Dr. Brett Bevans and the team at Victoria Avenue Dental can offer you a variety of options for dental bridges that include traditional bridges, cantilever bridges, or Maryland bonded bridges. Depending on your unique situation, your general dentist will assess and determine which type of bridge is most suitable for your needs. Once the type of bridge has been selected, your general dentist will then prepare the abutment teeth, which includes reshaping them. A digital impression of your teeth will then be made and sent to a dental laboratory. You will then be issued a temporary bridge until your follow up appointment with your general dentist, who will install the custom made and permanent dental bridge.

Dental Crowns

For patients who suffer from broken, cracked, crooked, or decayed teeth, your general dentists in Cranbrook and the team at Victoria Avenue Dental can offer you dental crowns, which are designed to fully encase and cover the affected tooth that lies within the gum line. Dental crowns can be crafted from a plethora of materials that include stainless steel, metal alloys, porcelain, ceramics, or composite resin. However, patients often prefer tooth coloured options such as porcelain and ceramics, since it enables you to have a more aesthetically pleasing smile.

The installation of a tooth coloured dental crown or cap involves a two step process. During your first appointment with your general dentist, a thorough examination will be conducted and may involve a series of x-rays to determine the strength of your tooth. Your general dentist will then numb the affected tooth with an anesthetic, to ensure you do not feel any pain as your tooth is reshaped and prepared to receive the crown. Once your tooth has been adequately prepared, a digital impression will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory. During your second dental visit, your custom made dental crown will replace the temporary crown.
